By Any Other Name

On the way in to work today I stopped by our Piñon Coffee House, which just celebrated its anniversary. I picked up my favorite Biscochito Latte and headed into the office.

I have to say, nothing smells better than coffee. Sniff…mmmm…the perfect combination of scents that send my brain synapsis pinging around my cranium. Between the caffeine boost and the olfactory titillation, I get the heady feeling I could rule the world. OK, maybe not the whole world, but at least four phone lines and an internet connection.

While coffee might not make me queen of the world, scientific studies do reveal that drinking it could be making me smarter. Coffee actually improves various aspects of brain function. This includes memory, mood, vigilance, energy levels, reaction times and general cognitive function. New data shows that even smelling coffee can perk you up and reduce stress levels in your body making you happier.

With all the benefits the regular cup of Joe offers, it seems like it could use a fancier name than coffee. Well, Macchiato, Latte, Cappuccino and Espresso are more exotic sounding. It seems that just like the rose, which by any other name would smell as sweet, so would coffee!
